For every intentional deception, we degrade our reputations and our integrity.  I have found that I can find other business people to work with who are able to be honest in encounters. Your point about absolute honesty holds some merit; we do compliment others even if we do not feel that way and we do stretch the truth on occasion to grease the wheels of society.  However, the acceptability of not being honest in day to day interactions can ruin the fabric of our lives. 
     
     Try being foolish enough and see what happens-  I mean in significant situations. I find my clients and associates prefer to know rather than having their feelings saved.
